What about story engages the reader/viewer/listener? It peaks the curiosity about what is going to happen next. A good story is going to have a story question, and the question will dominate that story. The entire story will relate back to that question.
Questions: Will George Clooney successfully rob the casino? Will Little Foot find his mother? Can Dave Ramsey get me out of debt?
These are the questions that keep you interested. Do you have a story question? What question dominates your life? Do you even have a story question, or are you just floating through life?
Once you discover your story question ask yourself this. Am I telling a good story? Do I want to keep living based on my current story question or do I need to find a better question for my story?
If you have 11 minutes Donald Miller has an interesting video discussing the idea of story questions. http://vimeo.com/3960836
